EMBODY WHAT WE TEACH

OUR MEANING

We must be the happy example of why our stuff works. We can’t expect other people to live by or apply anything that is not working for us or that we do not embody ourselves. If someone is looking for an example of why our stuff works, they should be able to see it in any member of our team.

ENJOY WHAT YOU DO

OUR MEANING

You could be with friends, family, hobbies or napping in a hammock right now – if you're going to be at work, it had better be good! That means it's not just about earning money to do fun stuff, it's about doing fun stuff to earn money. This is a company where work can be enjoyable, rather than something you have to get out of the way before you can enjoy yourself. Make the most of it and help us to keep it true.

  • Is there any aspect of your work that you're not enjoying? If so, have you tried something to make it more enjoyable?
  • If that hasn't worked, have you communicated it so we can work together on a solution?

EMPATHISE WITH EVERYONE

OUR MEANING

Start with people where they're at. Whether they're a client, participant, supplier or work mate, make an effort to understand how the other person is feeling and how they see the world today. Remember that you have your own issues, faults and ego reactions - so don't rush to judge and condemn. Our overall aim is to bring something wonderful and useful into the world. To do this, we need good relationships – built on empathy, respect and trust. Develop the necessary attitude, knowledge and skills to empathise with everyone.

ASK YOURSELF

  • Do you start by asking people how they’re going rather than just launching into task or talking about yourself?
  • How do you cultivate your ability to empathise with others? 
  • Do you try to build rapport with EVERYONE? Not just the direct client or participant but with the AV team, function staff, flight attendants, caterers, the receptionist, our printers, IT providers – with everyone

EXCEL AT YOUR WORK

OUR MEANING

Be the best at what you do. In addition to being the best in whatever products or services we offer, we should provide the best client service and internal leadership. We have a great reputation for excellence – we must continually earn, protect and preserve this reputation but not by focusing on the reputation, by focusing on the work itself. Be the best you can be – and then ask yourself if you can do better.

  • Is there something you can do better? How will you improve?
  • Can you improve in a way that is healthy and sustainable? 
  • What investments do we need to make to excel at something we're not doing well enough?
  • What learning, training or mentoring do you need to get better at your work?

BE EASY TO DEAL WITH

OUR MEANING

Our clients have enough headaches – we're not going to be one of them. Be positive, proactive, friendly, flexible, quick to respond and clear. We want our clients to not just rave about the quality of our actual work but to say, "They were so easy to deal with!"

ASK YOURSELF

  • What have you done in the last week to make life easier for a client?
  • Do you reckon people are happy to see your name in their inbox?
  • Do you respond to all messages within 48 hours, even if only to say
    you've received it and you're working on it?
  • Where possible, do you do the work for the client so they're not running around for us?
  • Are your emails and messages clear? Do you make clear requests and clear commitments? Do you deliver on what you've committed to?
  • Do you have minimal attachments so we can be flexible and adaptable for others?

BE HONEST

OUR MEANING

We don't know what you don't tell us. It's your responsibility to:

  • Communicate your needs and wants
  • Express your fears and uncertainties
  • Share your dreams and aspirations
  • Tell us your screw-ups and successes

You are required – as part of your employment with this company – to tell us what we need to know to best work happily and effectively with you. Holding back on these things messes with the company and your ability to be fulfilled at work. This is an "adults only workplace" – we are all responsible for thinking, acting and responding like adults – and that includes speaking up.

  • Do you feel that you are fully showing up to work and being accepted when you do?
  • Have you admitted and taken responsibility for any mistakes, failures or issues?
  • Have you told us when you've succeeded as well so we can acknowledge that?
  • Have you completely disclosed your "left column" on any recent issues?
  • Do you ever feel misunderstood by others? If so, what have you done about it?
  • Are you having any conversations in your head that you should really be having in person? If it happened for two days in a row, did you talk on the third day?
  • Do you fully understand the impact that with-holding information has both on you and on the rest of us? What would it take for you to be more open?
  • In the last few weeks, can you think of some times when you’ve been involved in really open, honest, direct conversation at work?

BE HEALTHY

OUR MEANING

Look after your body - it's the only one you've got. Care for your mental health and tend your soul. Eat well, sleep well and don't work TOO much. Take time off to be with the ones you love. Have hobbies and play. The healthier you are, the happier and more energetic you'll be, and that increases your ability to serve the world with your gifts.

BE GENEROUS

OUR MEANING

We're extremely fortunate – we respect that by paying it forward. This also expresses our attitude of "abundance". An attitude of "excess" leads to waste, entitlement and disrespect. An attitude of "scarcity" leads to fear, greed, selfishness, hoarding, competition and pessimism. An attitude of abundance leads to openness, sharing, appreciation, contentment and joy - and a greater ability to continue creating and sharing abundance. So be generous and enjoy it.

  • What does generosity feel like in your body?
  • Have you helped someone recently with no expectation to receive something in return?
  • In the last month, who have we helped simply because we could?

COLLABORATE (DON'T COMPETE)

OUR MEANING

We do not compete with each other in this business – ever. We work together. We prioritise the company purpose over our individual egos. We respect and appreciate what everyone can bring and take contributions from everywhere. It does not matter where a good idea comes from – if it's useful, we use it. There is no hierarchy of ideas. We do not believe in competition in our field – there is an abundance of work and we share openly with supposed "competitors". We overcome our personal attachments, judgements, fears and selfishness to collaborate for a higher goal. We are each responsible for making this happen. We must all develop the attitude, knowledge and skills to collaborate. And if you're struggling with any part of it, say so – we'll work with you on it.

  • Are you regularly asked for your ideas and input?
  • Do you frequently ask others for theirs?
  • Have you handed something over when you realised someone else could do it better? And did you then support them and celebrate their success?
  • Do you continually seek feedback?
